Who runs the Heritage Centre

When the first building – a reconstructed cottars’ cottage – at Ionad Naomh Moluag (the gathering place of St Moluag) was opened on 17 March 2007 it once more put the Gaelic language and culture at the heart of Lismore..

The Historical Society – Comann Eachdraidh Lios Mòr – had been formed in 1994 with the help of Beathag Morrison of Comann na Gaidhlig. It was founded by Donald Black, Margaret MacDonald and Cathy Carmichael who became chairman, secretary and treasurer respectively. They held a public meeting at which nine others joined. The teacher’s house became vacant and, after negotiation with the former Strathclyde Regional Council, Comann Eachdraidh Lios Mòr was established in the schoolhouse at Achnacroish in 1995.

Today the heritage as it colloquially known  is a large successful business which like all other Lismore bodies takes a huge amount of running. Over 50 volunteers work throughout the season and in the closed months keeping it going determined to ensure it has a future..
