The Lismore Gaelic Heritage Centre runs on volunteer energy and at the moment requires over 50 volunteers – both islanders and non-residents – to keep this very large business running. And with the population of Lismore being only around 170 and several other organisations on the island also needing volunteers, we are always on the look out.
The range of help needed is huge. The grounds, the building, the displays, the shop, the café, library, toilets, and the cottage all require continuous maintenance and upgrading. We also creators of the exhibitions, organisers of performers and performances, fund raisers, and liaisers with other island bodies.
From April to October the centre is open 7 days from 11-4 and a volunteer runs the desk and welcomes and assists visitors. Desk volunteers are vital to keep the place open.
The Digital Heritage Centre also requires volunteers with a large website, social media and digital displays needing creating and maintaining. This also requires Gaelic speakers.
To volunteer you do not necessarily need to live on the island although for some roles this is clearly necessary.
We would love your help no matter how little or how much you can give.
