Taproot 24/25 Lismore Dance Band
Rosemary Barry writes: The Lismore Dance Band rounded off the Taproot season with their eclectic mixture of tunes. A different member of the group introduced each short set with interesting background information.
Mairi Campbell explained how Scottish folk fiddling was precise and energetic with different methods of bowing from her classical violin training. From the jazz of Duke Ellington to Gaelic waltzes and humorous Irish songs, fast reels and jigs and the Scottish version of the 19th century polka, the momentum didn’t falter.
The Second Noel ,written as a Secret Santa present and a moving tribute to the late John Livingstone, made the session more intimate and the encore of Mairi Campbell’s gentle lampooning of the band members in her Jimmy Shand tribute rounded off the afternoon to appreciative applause. Jane, Noelle and Mairi played fiddles, Ann and new recruit Catherine added body with their accordions, Shona provided gentle guitar playing while Duncan harmonised on his mouth organ and Katy ably accompanied on the keyboard.
