The Museum reopened on 29 March 2010 with a display telling The Story of the Shop  which, since it was built in 1890s by Neil McCormick of Daisybank, has played a vital part in local life providing the island with many of its needs.

At one time there were three shops on Lismore but this is the one that has survived and traded continuously for over a hundred years. There are photos of all who have had owned it and worked in it, as well as milestones such as the winning of the Post Office award for best rural Post Office.

Centre stage in the display is an extremely accurate scale model of the shop made by Tony Perkins. Today the shop is extremely well run by David Wilson, and sells a great range of food and many other items tourists and indeed islanders suddenly find they need. Also David is always willing to order in anything he doesn’t happen to have.

Two representatives from Museum Galleries Scotland visited Ionad Naomh Moluag recently and were  impressed by all they saw including the awards won, the displays, the library, the café, the welcome they received and most of all by the range of high calibre work being done by many volunteers.

Lismore is very lucky in having well qualified and energetic people to work in what are often specialised fields. However to keep the whole complex running more volunteers are always needed and Ina MacColl who organises the shop and its volunteers  would love to hear from anyone who could join the generous people already giving their time.
