On Sunday 12 January 2014, the car park was full and there was seldom an empty seat at the Grand Opening of Liosbeag, the café at the Heritage Centre, now in the capable hands of Kiki MacColl. On a dry and sometimes sunny day, she and her staff worked tirelessly from 11-4 to serve the continuous queue of islanders and mainland visitors eager to celebrate her grand opening and the Old New Year, an important date on Lismore.
The set £10 menu was popular and of course the complimentary drink and cake likewise. And all this despite the ravages of the power cuts and low voltage periods interfering with heating and waters pumps for many on the island including the Heritage Centre.
But the hard work paid off and it all went according to plan and Kiki is to be congratulated and wished every success. Until the 1 April when the centre opens for the season, Kiki will be opening every Tuesday as well as some Saturdays. She has also arranged special dinners e.g. Burn’s night and St Valentine’s day, and is available for private functions. For further details of her special openings or to book the café for a private function you can ring her at the cafe on 01631 760020. You can also find her on facebook at Liosbeag Café.
