Author Mavis Gulliver has always been interested in writing. As a child she used to make magazines, filling the pages with stories, poems, quizzes and puzzles. Then came growing up when having a family and being a teacher didn’t leave her with enough time to write seriously. These days there are three passions in her life: her family, her writing and islands. For the past twenty-two years she has been fortunate to live in the Hebrides, firstly as teacher on Colonsay, and latterly on Islay.

She now combines her interests in islands and writing, and is in the process of producing a collection of island poems.
But , we are very happy to say that it is her prose writing that is bringing her to Children’s Book Week and in particular her fantasy adventure for children Cry At Midnight

On Monday 20 October you can join in the fantasy adventure world she will create and find out “Where stories come from” . There are 2 sessions.
2 .00 to 2.45 pm. Session 1 All primary children are invited to bring their imaginations and write at least one story together, work on illustrations and even do a little acting.
3.00 to 4.00 pm Session 2: For children aged 7 and over this is an interactive session when she will read some extracts from the first 7 chapters of the book interspersing these with with questions, and exploring how objects can grow into stories.
Mavis Gulliver has asked that you don’t read “Cry at Midnight” before you come as that will spoil the session for you. Copies will be available for sale on the day, with a signed bookmark.
