Twelve children and their parents from the Mid Argyll Great Auks’ Club – Kilmartin Museum’s young archaeology and wildlife group –visited us on a very sunny April Day. They were lead by Kilmartin’s Education Officers, Julia Hamilton and Kate Moody, guided for the day by Bob Hay and entertained in the café by Beth Campbell.
In the morning they enthusiastically completed a quiz which had them minutely examining all the banners in the Museum room helped by two local children Emma and Lewis MacColl who joined them for the day. The Great Auks are unique in Britain as they combine an exploration of archaeology and wildlife and, as this year’s theme is the iron age and early medieval, Lismore was full of interest and, after lunch, they went off to see the Broch of Tirfuir followed by a visit to Castle Coeffin. The enthusiasm of these children was most impressive and they created a real buzz about the Centre with their intelligent exploring.
