Tracing your family history can reconnect you with a rich heritage shaped by migration and resilience. We can help descendants of Liosaich (Lismore folk) rediscover their genealogical roots.
We are very lucky to have Laura Gloag as our resident genealogist who has a wealth of experience tracing family histories and uncovering ancestral connections.
If you are looking for support with your research or have a genealogy enquiry, please contact the Heritage Centre in the first instance.
You can contact the Heritage Centre at lismoremuseum@btconnect.com or phone 01631 760 030 during the season or contact Laura direct on lismoregen@hotmail.co.uk
Indigenous surnames
Carmichael, Black (MacIlleDhuibh), MacColl, Livingstone, Buchanan, MacCorquodale, Stewart, MacDonald, MacGregor, MacFadyen, Campbell. All of these are still represented on the Island.Other surnames – Keith, MacClaurin, MacGlashan, Graham, MacIntyre – have all vanished through emigration, eviction and economic necessity. Their descendants return seeking long-lost roots from all over the world and it is gratifying when we can lead them to the townships their ancestors were forced to leave.
